In today's realities, demining areas planted with anti-personnel booby traps requires not only classical tools but also specialized electronic equipment. One of these innovative solutions is Artemida demining device« from the Ukrainian company MNL.
What is an Artemida demining device?«
The Artemida demining device is designed specifically to counter the Okhota mine complex, a system of five anti-personnel mines with a seismic sensor that detects vibrations identical to human footsteps.
Artemida's principle of operation is based on imitating human footsteps: the device creates ground vibrations that are perceived by the mine complex as target movement, which causes the nearest mine to detonate before a real sapper or military personnel approach.
How it works in practice:
- Form and installation: The device has the form of a metal pin/cylinder that can be easily installed in the ground or dropped from a drone onto a minefield.
- Vibration mode: «Artemida generates a series of pulses that simulate human footsteps, sending the corresponding vibrations through the ground to the seismic sensor Okhota.
- Activation of mines: as the “target” (simulated) approaches, the Okhota mine is triggered, discharging its resources in advance, which makes it relatively safer to enter the area after the threat is reduced.
This approach significantly improves the safety of deminers, as they no longer enter a fully active minefield.
Design and use features
- Mobility: The compact metal body with a spike allows you to quickly install the device on different types of soil and use it in various conditions - from agricultural fields to frontline areas.
- Reliability: The product is designed for real military tasks, so it is used in the process of defusing Russian booby traps, which makes it not a theoretical but a field-tested technological solution.
- Ease of use: The manufacturer emphasizes simple installation - the device does not require complex training, which is important in conditions of constant workload on sappers.
What exactly is Artemida for?«
The Artemida demining device was designed specifically to counter the Okhota UXO system, which is different:
- step detection distance of up to approximately 90 meters;
- automatic activation of the nearest mine when the corresponding vibrations are detected.
«Artemida allows activating such mines before the sappers arrive, as well as using them in complex scenarios:
- when clearing areas for civilians;
- when demining agricultural land that is important for the resumption of production.
«Artemida is:
- A Ukrainian engineering development aimed directly at Russian mine systems;
- An extremely targeted tool with a clearly described principle of operation (step emulation, seismic response);
- A good example of new demining methods that are being actively used in Ukraine.
